My Cat Ranch

Since we moved out to the country, our home has become a haven for many, many animals.

We started out with four cats, which were dumped in the street in front of our house by someone in a truck. The four kittens were maybe 6 weeks old. We took them to the vets, cared for them, and tried to find them homes. No one wanted them, so we still have them to this day. When they were old enough, we had them all fixed. But, since then, we have had many, many more unwanted animals dumped out here. We have also taken in some owner surrendered cats who had no where else to go. We also take in cats who are on death row at the pound as we can raise the funds and find the space. We also have some stray or feral animals that have wandered until they found us, and decided to stay. It is mostly cats. We have had a few dogs find their way to us, as well. We currently have too many cats who live inside with us. We also have about twenty outside cats, who almost never leave our yard. In addition to that, we feed other stray and feral cats, who only come around to eat. On June 25, 2006, we took in 16 cats and kittens from another animal rescue that was moving to Texas and not planning to continue in rescue work. We also short term foster cats and dogs for AHS, APAWS, ARNO, LAA, CFA Purebred Cat Rescue, and other rescues both local and out of state. That means we currently have over 80 cats that we care for. We would have more cats, but we try to get them all fixed when they are old enough, as soon as we can afford it. We also were able to find wonderful homes for some of the kittens that we had taken in. We currently have quite a few cats and kittens now available for adoption!

Although our rescue focus is cats, we also have three dogs, and eight puppies, that we currently take care of. Only the Husky, may she rest in peace, was a planned purchased pet. The German Shepherd was the first dog that was dumped out here that we took in. She was only 3 months old, badly neglected and abused. Some say she is actually a Malanias. She is now 7 years old and a member of our family. We also have a Terrier that was given to us, who was rescued from a breeder, who has also become a member of our family. As well as one of several dogs that were dumped out here, that we are currently looking to get adopted: Buddy, who is a neutered male terrier sized dog. Beethoven, a male Golden Retriever mix, is also in need of a wonderful home. Tippy is a beautiful spayed female German Shepherd mix puppy that needs a wonderful new home. Aleu, a female Husky Mix that we rescued from the pound is looking for her furr-ever home. We have adopted or found rescues for the other dogs and puppies who have found their way to my Cat Ranch.

We also have one goat, two rabbits, and two gerbils.

We do our best to keep all of our animals well fed, loved, and kept up to date with proper veterinary care. All of the animals that let us touch them, get a trip to the vet for shots, and to get fixed. We keep the dogs on monthly heartworm preventative medicine. This can be quite costly. Especially when quite a few need to go to the vet's at one time. Thanks to everyone who purchased custom made basket gift sets from me, we were able to get several cats neutered during the Spring! On April 2, 2004, both Alex and Ray were neutered. Then, on April 8th, 2004, Juni was fixed. Lightning and Thunder were both fixed on April 16th, 2004. Then, thanks to the generosity of Wil Wheaton, as well as others online, who made donations or purchases, we were able to get other cats fixed. Anna was spayed on September 28th, 2004. Storm, Stargate, Wesley, and Ryo were all fixed on October 5th, 2004. Lelu was spayed on October 28th, 2004. Shadow was neutered on November 16, 2004. Darci was spade on January 21, 2005. Kero was neutered on March 8, 2005. Kirk and Wil were both neutered on March 22nd, 2005. On May 10, 2005, Jamie, Kevin, Benjamin, Lonnie, Vinny, and Andrew were all fixed. Ashley was spayed on December 23, 2005. Baby Stripes, Sephiroth, and Cane were all neutered on December 28, 2005. On February 23, 2006, Jamie Lee, Little Black Bear, and Ms. Tuxedo Baby were all spayed. On March 15, 2006, Ms. Polo, Ms. Pepper, and Crystal were all spayed. On March 23, 2006, Smokey and Lucky were both neutered. On April 27th, 2006, Selena, as well as three ARNO & APAWS fosters were all fixed. On April 28th, two of our AHS fosters were fixed. Nick, our ARNO foster was neutered on May 16, 2006. On May 17th, 2006, Fluffy and Myst were both spayed. On June 1, 2006, Flash and Big Boy were fixed. King Richard the Lionhearted was neutered on June 16, 2006. On July 10, 2006 we took 17 kittens to be spayed/neutered on the Big Fix Rig. On September 14, 2006 we had Lucy and Aleu spayed, and Beethoven neutered. On September 28, 2006, the five puppies were all altered. George and Scott were neutered on October 9, 2006. Ace and Diamond were both altered on October 30, 2006. During the month of November we did TNR and were able to spay and neuter twelve feral and free roaming cats and kittens. All of these animals have you, our supporters who make purchases and donations, to thank for getting fixed and vaccinated. Thank you!

In addition to getting these animals spayed and neutered, we find ourselves at the vet sometimes as often as 2 or 3 times a week for things that pop up with this many animals in our care. Therefore, we are constantly in need of funds for vet bills. For things that pop up, we use our local vet. However, for spays and neuters, and other surgeries and dental work, we have started making the long drive to a rescue friendly vet in Baton Rouge. The out of town vet has to be scheduled in advance, and is always an all day trip. However, the money saved is well worth the drive and time.

Because the expense of caring for these animals is so great, some of my friends have offered to help with occasional donations of pet food and treats, as well as cash donations. Since then, I have also started taking all the money from my eBay Store sales, my Tupperware Store sales, the sale of my discounted in stock Tupperware, and my half.com book and video game sales, and using it for my Cat Ranch expenses. I can also accept PayPal donations. We are not a non-profit organization yet. We are just a family of five, who live in the country, with a lot of love to share with these unwanted animals. Our hearts are full, but unfortunately, our wallets are not.

My Cat Ranch is currently working together with Acadiana Humane Society, for the benefit of the rescue animals in our care. You can find us at the Petsmart in Lafayette, Louisiana between 11AM and 3PM most Saturdays. Look for us at the Acadiana Humane Society adoption table in the back of the store. Thank you!

UPDATE: As of January 1, 2007, Sue became the President of the Acadiana Humane Society. Both rescues are now being operated together as one rescue. Now all donations to our animal rescue are tax deductible.

Click the "Make A Donation" Button above to donate to our Vet Fund. Or, If you would like to make a PayPal donation for the Building and Cage Fund, please click here.

I am also looking for coupons for pet food and cat litter. If you clip coupons, but don't have a cat or dog, please feel free to mail me any of the coupons that you think I can use. The brands that the animals prefer are Purina Pro Plan, Science Diet, Purina, Meow Mix, Friskies, and Authority (click here for a complete list of what we can use). However, they will usually eat whatever we give them. The clumping cat litter that we prefer to use is Purina Tidy Cats, Fresh Step, or Arm & Hammer, as they are the cheapest ones with the least amount of mess and smell. We also use the regular clay litter when we have kittens with diarrhea, or when money is too tight. If you would like to send us coupons, please send them to:
